The Vatican Library, known more correctly as Biblioteca Apostolica Vaticana, is in an era where heritage preservation meets technological innovation, where libraries worldwide are embracing digital transformation to safeguard and share their invaluable collections. We are proud of our successful collaboration with the Vatican Library in digitizing their manuscripts, transitioning from long-term preservation in FITS open format, to the standardisation of digital contents for web platform consultation.  

The Vatican Library embarked on a journey to digitize its manuscript collection, aiming to enhance accessibility and ensure long-term preservation, in need of a system which would allow self-documentation, permanent access, and proprietary independency. The project involved the conversion of digital manuscripts into FITS format, a robust standard ensuring data integrity and longevity.  

To accomplish this ambitious undertaking, the Vatican Library partnered with DB SERET and leveraged our advanced OMNES solution. OMNES facilitated data validation, metadata storage, and retrieval according to PREMIS standards, ensuring comprehensive preservation. Furthermore, the platform seamlessly converted images into FITS format and various exchange formats, ensuring compatibility and ever-lasting accessibility.

OMNES is built on 10 years scientific co-operation with ESA

ESA Corporate, a leading organisation in the aerospace industry, faced the challenge of managing vast volumes of diverse data while ensuring compliance with rigorous standards. This case study explores how the European Space Agency partnered with DB SERET to implement the OMNES Suite, a comprehensive solution that converges multiple systems and addresses their complex information management needs. 

ESA sought a solution that could seamlessly integrate various systems, facilitate fast data ingestion, enable research in a big data lake, and ensure compliance with stringent file description and cataloguing standards. The adoption of the OMNES Suite encompassed Document Management, Information Retrieval, Archival Description, and Long-Term Preservation functionalities, incorporating a wide array of standards such as ISAD(G), EAD, DUBLIN CORE, and OAIS. 

DB SERET collaborated closely with ESA to deploy the complete OMNES Suite, tailored to their specific requirements. The solution enabled massive ingestion of native digital documents, digitized analog files and images, providing a flexible and user-friendly interface for seamless navigation and retrieval. Moreover, the OMNES Suite facilitated big data research, empowering the ESA Archive to extract actionable insights from their vast information repository.
